Bus trip day 6

Today was race day for Fluidride Cup #3 in Mt. Hood, Oregon. I had a crash in the morning on the fire road. I was warming up doing a sprint when my shorts caught on my fork and I went down and hit the ground really hard. I sliced open my hand and arm and bruised my leg real bad. I still had to go up for my qualifying run. I did an easy run and placed 6th. I got all cleaned and bandaged up for the race run and chilled out for a while. I got to the top and waited around for my run. I got on course and started out on a pretty good run. I was carrying good speed for sure. In the middle pedal section I didn’t feel very well so I didn’t really pedal that hard. I hit the rock section super fast and the bottom woods really well too. Then I cane down to the finish in the hot seat. I ended up 4th 1.96 seconds off the win. I was super stoked to do well but I think if I had prepared better and had better luck in the morning I could have for sure been on pace to win. Tonight we are packing up the bus and then off the Washington and Whistler in the AM.

Bus trip day 5

First off here is a video of the last few days. Its got footage of the bus, mini golf, alpine slide, and the a helmet cam shot of the DH track here for Fluidride Cup #3 here in Mt. Hood, Oregon.
Bus Trip Video #1
Today was good. We woke up around 8:30 and cooked some breakfast. After that we trained Dh and I did 3 runs, 2 of them were top to bottom runs. Its going to be around a 4 minute track I’m guessing. Tomorrow we have qualifying and race in the afternoon. After we rode the Dh track today we went swimming in the stream and took a nice cold shower. Then after that we got a massive meal at the huckleberry inn in town and then went out to a lake with everyone and worked on our kayaking skills!

Bus trip – Day 4

Today was the first official day of practice for Fluidride Cup #3 here at Mt. Hood, Oregon. They opened up the upper section of the track today. This part is super high speed and a bit rough. It totally added a new element to the race. Now the track starts out super pinned for a few minutes and then drops down into the rocky strait section and then into the freshly cut rooty and loamy bottom section. I did 4 full runs today and am feeling good and up to speed on the track. I’m hoping for another good result and to keep my strong momentum going through the rest of the season. We got a few more alpine slide runs today as well which was awesome. The weather today cleared up, there wasn’t as cloud in the sky and it was really warm. The views of the volcano were amazing! We have the most legit pit ever! 2 easy ups, the bus and now the Buell’s trailer as well. I’m stoked on how well I have been sleeping on the bus. I sleep on the old blue couch and it is so good! We have been eating super well too so that helps a lot. Tomorrow we have another practice day and then the race is Sunday. After the race we are planning on riding a day in Washington and then moving on the Whistler, Canada. That’s all for now, I will try and update the site again after the race but Internet is hard to come by around here!

Bus trip – day 3

Today was by far the most fun day of the trip so far. First of all we woke up in the sickest campsite ever. We searched around a lot yesterday and found this place tucked down by a sweet stream.  We cooked some mean meals on the camping stove for breakfast and then started to pack out stuff up. We headed over to the mountain and found out to our surprise that it was open for riding today.  We got the $30 adventure pack which included lift access DH riding, unlimited ½ mile alpine slide rides, mini golf, and this crazy plastic tubing thing.  We started the day of riding bikes. We did a ton of runs on the pro track and it is absolutely amazing. The top is fast and rocky and then it gets steeper and transfers into a freshly cut section of trail. This part is rooty and super loamy. There is a lot of good terrain on the track and it is by far the most fun track I have ridden this season.  After we rode downhill for a few hours we decided to switch the alpine slide. After becoming a pro and figuring out which sleds were the best we were getting super crazy on them.  We rode them pretty much all afternoon and it was a blast.  We definitely almost crashed a few time too! After the alpine slid we moved on to Mini Golf. We did a legit game first. I think Mason won and Evan was second with Billy and I off the back. After the real game we decided to have a huck fest and it got a bit rowdy. We were launching balls from one hole to the next and far off into the woods! Today was for sure one of the most fun days I have ever had! Now we are cooking up some dinner. More of the same tomorrow!

Woke up in the morning and explored around the campsite!

This is the area where the race is. Its nice because the alpine slide is off the same lift so we switched between DH runs and alpine slide runs all day!

Mason is new to DH but he is super pinned and loose already. Soon to be big time for sure. He registered for the race and under put “Joey Schusler Racing” down for his sponsor. Haha, he’s all factory looking!

The bottom half of the track is all steep, rooty, and loamy like this picture. Awesome.

So good!

Included in the adventure pass was mini golf. It got a bit extreme. Video to follow when I get good internet.

Bus trip – day 2

Today we woke up at some “camp site” on the side of the road we found late last night.  Some crazy waitress named Wendy picked on Will for all of dinner and then told us where we could camp.  It took like an hour to find the area that was supposed to be like 7 miles away.  We did another long day of driving through Idaho and Eastern Oregon.  It got super hot in the bus in Oregon, we had all the windows down going about 70mph and it was still super hot in the bus.  Finally we got into some cool country in the Blue Mountains and along the Columbia River. Once we got going up the hood river we were all super excited.  We got into Government Camp, the town where the Ski Area is, and checked everything out. There was a solid mix between park rat snow-clown skiers and full on nerded out ski racers with long socks and new sneakers.  The “stezze” was off the charts. We got the world famous  huckleberry shakes from the huckleberry inn and then went to find a camp spot. We found such an awesome camp spot! Huge old trees and a nice creek near by. We cooked up some food and fucked around for a bit and then passed out.

This is the sweet camp spot we woke up to in the morning. Thanks for the horrible directions Wendy!

Last night Mason had a little mishap where he mistook Will’s pee for water. Oh Mason…

Lots and lots of driving and finally at Mt. Hood!!!

Stoked once we arrived in Mt. Hood Oregon!

We found a sweet camp site tonight!

Bus trip – Day one

Today we drove from boulder to charming twin springs Idaho. This place doesn’t seem to have much to it. Right know we are eating dinner at a truck stop and deciding what to do with the rest of out day. Tomorrow we will show up in Mt. Hood. It was a day full of loud music blasting down the highway, spin bike training while the bus was moving, and lots and lots of shenanigans. What a fun day to start out the trip! I can only imagine how epic this trip is going to be!!! Never been so excited to get on a school bus!!!

The whole crew

Max speed downhill on I-80

Will spinning at 70mph on the highway! Training is the key to success!

Filling up the bus is not cheep but between 9 people its not bad at all

Dinner on the roof of the bus. Good way to top off a great day one on the road.

Fist night of camping in the bus

Road Trip

Tomorrow me and 8 other racers are leaving boulder and driving in a full size school bus to the Fluid Ride Cup in Mt. Hood, Oregon. After we race at the weekend we will be moving on to Whislter! In Whistler we are planning on doing a lot of riding. We even have a spin bike on the bus to do our training! Internet will be scarce, so updates on this site won’t be as often, but I’m sure the updates will be filled with quality stories and pictures. So stoked!

Crested Butte DH Finals

Not much to say. I was riding awesome and had a tangle with some trees in my race run.  I ended up getting 3rd place and was 3.5 second off the winning time. I’m bummed I didn’t win because I know I had it in me but on the other hand crashing and still placing 3rd is a solid result and I know my pace is right there for winning.  Here are some random photos from today…

My family, Camilo, and the Boice family.

Camilo qualified in 3rd and finished the day in 5th. His first taste of Glory here in the USA!!!
